Plenty of Points for Optimum at Oulton
The first race weekend of the 2013 Ginetta GT5 Championship saw each Optimum Motorsport driver scoring well. There was a bumper 27-car grid for the first three rounds at Oulton Park and with relative inexperience at the circuit, each driver was looking to cement points to start their campaign.
Thaigo Calvet has previously raced at Oulton and had a best placed finish of 10th during 2012.
“I was looking to score better than last year and did just that” said Calvet. “I have never gone particularly well at Oulton so I wanted to score some good championship points. I am looking forward to the next round at Rockingham, where I am normally quick."
Jason Kenny and Tor McIlroy had never raced at the Cheshire circuit prior to the first rounds of 2013 and both progressed over the weekend, with lap times tumbling during each track session. Kenny and McIlroy had best placed finishes of 9th and 10th respectively.
Optimum boss Shaun Goff was pleased with the weekend. “With 3 races run over a single day at Oulton Park, the first weekend of the Championship is always tough.” said Goff. “We’re happy with our weekend; each driver finished every race and scored points, which is a good start to the Championship.”
