What better way to kickstart the new year than with a twice-around-the-clock race? Well, that’s exactly Optimum Motorsport’s plans as today, the Wakefield-based outfit confirm their lineup for a return to the Dubai Autodrome for the Middle Eastern enduro.

The team has a rich history of success at the event, winning the 2012 SP3 class and repeating the result in both 2015 and 2017. For the 20th edition of the race, Morgan Tillbrook, Mikey Porter, Thomas Ikin and Benji Goethe, will join forces in Optimum’s #33 McLaren GT3 EVO, vying for overall honours in next month’s Michelin 24H Dubai.

Tillbrook, Ikin and Goethe have all had experience in Optimum’s McLaren machinery over the winter, taking part in the 2024/25 Asian Le Mans Series’ opening weekend at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia last month. Although in separate entries for the series, the trio will come together for next month’s twenty-four-hour spectacle, and be joined by British GT’s Silver Driver Champion, Mikey Porter.

In what will be only his second GT3 race, the first being with Optimum Motorsport back in October in the International GT Open at the Temple of Speed (Monza, Italy), Mikey completes the outfits quartet.

"I'm really excited to make the next step in my career, with this opportunity given to me by McLaren and Optimum Motorsport," said Mikey Porter. "I'm looking forward to giving this new challenge my all!"

“We’ve had a lot of success in Dubai and the Middle East over the past few years across many different championships,” said Shaun Goff, Optimum Motorsport’s Team Principal. “It’s a great way to kickstart the year. We have a strong lineup so I’m looking forward to seeing what our drivers and team can do.”

The team hit the track for two days of testing from Wednesday January 8th before the official actions gets underway on Friday 10th. Practice sets the pace for the day, before focus turns to the evening’s qualifying. Three of the four drivers will each take part in a 15-minute session, with the average time taken from each of their fastest laps to determine the grid order for the start of Saturday’s race.

The 20th edition of the 24H Dubai gets underway on Saturday 11th January at 13:00 GST (09:00 GMT). Coverage of the Middle Eastern enduro is live, and free on Creventic Motorsports TV’sYouTube channel.
